Jonathan Sexton is reportedly out of Ireland’s tour to South Africa next month.

On Sunday, Joe Schmidt’s side travel to take on the Springboks three times between June 11 and 25, with Sexton named as the most senior out-half in the squad.

But the Leinster no 10 has undergone shoulder surgery on the damage he picked up during the Guinness PRO12 final defeat to Connacht, according to the Irish Independent.

He is expected to be out for around 12 weeks, with Ian Madigan likely to get the call up to replace him.

Sexton will be the second loss to the squad since it was named, with Luke Fitzgerald forced to withdraw earlier this week due to a knee injury.

Schmidt will confirm any absences and replacement call-ups at a press conference this afternoon.
