The Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) of the GAA have today decided that there is to be a replay of the Christy Ring Cup final.
Meath were presented the trophy after the game on Saturday but it turned out afterwards the referee had got the score wrong and it should have been a draw.
The GAA said: “Following consideration of the referee’s report, it has been confirmed that the final score of the game was recorded incorrectly and that the game did finish in a draw.”
The winners of the Christy Ring Cup get promoted to the Leinster Championship next season.
There had been some suggestion that both teams could be promoted but GAA president Aogán Ó Fearghaíl dismissed that possibility earlier today.
“If the match had ended in a draw, you have to have a winner,” he said. “You can’t have two winners. We have to be fair and honest.”
Instead the final will now be replayed on Saturday June 11 at 7pm in Páirc Esler, Newry.
