Almost 1,000 properties around the country are without power this morning after thunderstorms hit the midlands and west of the country.

The power went out for almost 6,000 customers yesterday with most of the affected areas in Meath, Westmeath, Cavan, Cork, Sligo and Mayo.

The ESB said that it has crews working to restore supply.
