Pierce Brosnan has landed the lead role in US drama The Son.

Landing his first TV project in 28 years, the Navan native will play Irish-American Eli McCullough in the series.

According to Deadline, the 63-year-old 007 star is said to have replaced Australian actor Sam Neill, who dropped out for personal reasons.

The series centres around Texan family the McCulloughs and will cover several generations from 1836.

Eli McCullough was made famous after he was raised by the Comanche Native American tribe after being kidnapped as a child.
