Update 3pm
Swimming restrictions are being implemented at another of the country’s beaches.
Clare County Council has said a public bathing advisory introduced at Kilkee this morning could be lifted as early as tomorrow.
It is after elevated levels of microbiological contamination were detected.
Advisories are also in place at seven beaches in north county Dublin.
Earlier
Three north Dublin beaches have been hit by another sewage pollution incident.
Fingal County Council issued the advisory notice in respect of Portmarnock, Claremont and Sutton.
Bathers are advised not to swallow water and pregnant women, people with open cuts or a weakened immune system are asked to avoid swimming.
‘Do Not Swim’ notices are in place at Balbriggan, Skerries, Loughshinny and Rush due to a suspected deterioration in water quality.
Water samples were taken from these beaches yesterday and the results are expected by the end of next week.
