Talks between management and unions at Oberstown Youth Detention Centre in Dublin broke down last night without any resolution.

A series of stoppages by workers at the facility were postponed to facilitate the talks.

In a statement management said unions representing staff withdrew from the discussions at the Workplace Relations Commission.

The dispute centres around safety – Impact and Siptu say their members are exposed “to the daily risk of violent assault”.
