A family from Co. Cork has collected a cheque for €153,240 from National Lottery Headquarters after they matched five numbers plus the bonus number in the Lotto draw on Wednesday, June 1.
The winner, who wishes to remain private bought her winning Quick Pick selection ticket at Buckley’s Kiosk in Merchant’s Quay Shopping Centre on Patrick’s Street in Cork City on the day of the draw.
The winning mother-of-three explained how the win will help the family which has suffered a breavement recently.
She said: “Our family has had such a difficult couple of years and we feel that this Lotto win has literally fallen from the heavens. Unfortunately, I lost my husband a couple of years ago and it has put a tremendous strain on our family.
“My children and I have all been working hard just to pay our bills and to keep our heads above water. This win will give us great comfort and financial stability for many years to come.”
The winning mother spoke of the moment that she realised she had a big Lotto win.
She said: “I was scanning my lottery tickets on the National Lottery App when I realised I had won something big on the draw. I was in such disbelief that I had to double check on the National Lottery website.
“When I finally called my daughter to tell her the news, I was crying tears of joy down the phone and she thought something was wrong before I explained that we had won such a huge amount of money.”
Discussing her plans for the winnings, she said: “The only thing we want to do is to buy our house where we live at the moment. That alone will give us security for many years to come.
“We will enjoy some small treats this week but the rest of the money will be set aside for the future,” she added.
