Ireland’s Ambassador to France has warned Irish football fans that their Euro travel plans will be delayed by strikes.

Geraldine Byrne-Nason has advised people to check the Department Foreign of Affairs website for information, and to allow plenty of time to travel to matches.

70,000 Irish are expected to join seven million supporters from around the world for the tournament which starts tomorrow.

Games will be held in 10 cities in France from Lille in the North, to Marseilles in the South.

Ambassador Geraldine Byrne-Nason has said there will be delays getting around the tournament’s locations: “There are risks and the unions are threatening strikes.

“The French Government is working to a great level here to avoid an impact on visiting fans.

“We are monitoring this very carefully at the Embassy and the Department of Foreign Affairs, check our website, we are updating travel advice we are giving advice on how to check public transport.”
