The Children’s Minister Katherine Zappone has said the summer months could bring an even worse situation for homeless families.

Zappone has told the Dáil that housing children in adult hostels was a last resort and better than having them sleep on the streets.

However, she has expressed concern that some of normal emergency accommodation may not be available over the summer months.

“Certainly as we approach the summer months one of our great concerns now is that there may not even the hotel accommodation available because of what’s going on in terms of the tourism industry,” said Zappone.
