An Garda Síochána say it is carrying out a review of prosecutions relating to fixed charge offences, after it emerged that some drivers were fined multiple times for having no NCT certificate.

Gardaí say they have discovered cases where second prosecutions were taken against motorists for not having an NCT cert, where an original fine had already been paid.

The force says as a result, a review of prosecutions in relation to all fixed charge offences has been launched.

In a statement tonight, An Garda Síochána says it regrets any inconvenience caused, and say that anybody affected will be notified in writing.
