A group representing people with disabilities has said the Government needs to take a more mainstream approach to disability services.

Inclusion Ireland has said service reforms are needed in order to provide a better range and quality of services for people with disabilities.

The Minister of State with responsibility for disabilities Finian McGrath will be attending Inclusion Ireland’s conference in Dublin today.

CEO of Inclusion Ireland Paddy Connolly has said an interdepartmental approach is needed in order to provide better services for people with disabilities.

“Everything seems to fall to the Department of Health and the HSE, so you have the Department(s) of Justice, Education, Social Protection – they need to start working with each other in a more joined up way” said Connolly.

“This Minister, Finian McGrath, is responsible for the National Disability Strategy. He needs to start pushing Government Departments to actually start working together in the best interests of persons with a disability.”
