Jon Walters has suffered a recurrence of an Achilles injury which had already hampered his Euro 2016 preparations, writes Stephen Barry.

Walters was fit enough to start the game but started feeling the injury as early as the first minute.

He was eventually substituted after 63 minutes.

“(I’m) not great,” Walters told RTÉ after the game.

“I felt it (the injury) after one minute and couldn’t really sprint or jump. It wasn’t great.

“I just got through it hoping it would settle down.

“In the second half, after a couple of runs, it just tightened up even worse so I did the right thing to come off.”

As far as hir future participation in Euro 2016 is concerned, “we’ll see” was the answer from Walters.

“We’ll take it day by day, see what it’s like tomorrow morning and then go from there.

“It’s not as bad as when I first hurt it so we’ll see. It all depends how it settles down and things like that.

“I could play but I was nowhere near 100% out there.”

Tomorrow’s training session has been cancelled and a light recovery session will take place instead.
