No score at half-time between Ireland and Sweden in their opening European Championships game – it’s been a tense battle with chances for both sides.

But there is one area where Ireland are clearly winning – fan singing in the stadium.

And, surprising no-one, The Fields of Athenry is the song most often ringing out from the Stade de France.

It’s a beloved sound for most of the Irish listening.

We know what we like – and we stick to it.

Of course there’s always the odd dissenting voice.

Fans of other countries also love it.

Even if some get a bit confused and think it’s a rip-off of the Fields of Anfield Road.

Wrong way round lads!

Sing out and proud folks – you’re doing it for us all!

All together now! “Low lie, the fields of Athenry…”
