Revenue officers seized approximately eight million cigarettes following the search of a number of premises in Wexford yesterday.
The cigarettes had come into Dublin Port from Vietnam via Rotterdam last Friday in a container which was consigned as “Garden Furniture”.
The contraband cigarettes, branded “Aroma”, have a retail value of more than €4.2m, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of around €3.3m.
Investigations are ongoing and it brings the total number of cigarettes seized so far this year to more than 36 million.
