A major football tournament on RTÉ can only mean one thing – the return of the Après Match crew.

While Ireland had to settle for a draw after a valiant performance against Sweden last night, fans who had dreamed of a win were considerably cheered up by the trio’s take on events.

They had sharp words for Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimovic: “Dressed like a lemon, ran around like a lemon too. He left a very bitter taste in his manager’s mouth”.

But the highlight of last night’s clip was a cutaway to Martin O’Neill, who was gunning for his arch-nemesis on the panel.

“Eamon Dunphy to me is like a soap opera, he’s Deirdre Barlow, he’s Dirty Den, He’s Les Battersby,” O’Neill told the post-match interviewer.

“He’s playing all the parts and he’s equally outdated, he might as well be on Dave.”

Dunphy quickly interrupted but we suspect O’Neill is going to become a regular on the show.
