Iceland defender Kari Arnason wasn’t impressed with Cristiano Ronaldo’s remarks after Iceland held Portugal to a 1-1 draw last night.
Ronaldo bitterly criticised Iceland after the plucky minnows claimed the draw in their Euro 2016 opener.
He told several national newspapers: “It was a little bit frustrating, we tried hard to win the game, Iceland didn’t try anything.
“They celebrated like they had won the Euros or something. That’s a small mentality. That’s why they’ll do nothing.”
He was so miffed he refused to swap jerseys with Iceland captain Aron Gunnarsson.
But his comments were like water off a duck’s back to 33-year-old Arnasan, who was delighted with the result.
“It makes it even sweeter when he’s a sore loser like that,” he told The Mirror.
“I mean, he can say whatever he wants. He didn’t really get a chance, he got one and he couldn’t put it away. What can I say? Sore loser. Tough s**t.”
He went on to offer a scathing assessment of Ronaldo’s character.
“He’s a fantastic footballer but he’s not a gracious human being.”
He added: “Obviously we’re not going to create as much chances as a fantastic team like Portugal but his comments are the reason why Messi is always going to be one step ahead of him.”
“It shows we got under his skin. It was lovely to hear that.”
Ouch – over to you Cristiano.
