Cyclists in Cork are being reminded to keep their clothes on when using the Coke Zero public bikes, writes Kevin O’Neill.

A number of eagle-eyed Evening Echo readers spotted participants in the recent Cork Naked Bike Ride using the public bikes.

While the majority of people who took part used their own, private bikes, there were a handful used the public bikes that are available throughout the city.

The National Transport Authority, which maintains and operates the public-bike scheme in Cork City, has recommended that cyclists do not use their bikes for such an activity in the future.

Cyclists of the public bikes should wear a helmet and high-visibility clothing, the NTA have advised.

NTA rules also state that cyclists ‘undertake to use the service and the bikes as would any reasonably prudent, responsible and informed individual’, as well as avoiding ‘any abnormal use’ of the bikes.
