A section of the N24 Limerick to Waterford Road remains closed this morning following a serious road traffic collision last night.
The single-vehicle crash happened shortly after midnight at Boher.
GardaĆ, paramedics and two units of Limerick County Fire and Rescue Service from Cappamore attended the scene.
A young man who was traveling in the car was rushed by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick where his condition is described as critical.
The scene of the collision remains closed pending a full technical examination by gardaĆ.
Motorists are advised that diversions are in place.
Commuters traveling from Tipperary to Limerick will be forced to take a diversion at Dromkeen while commuters travelling out of Limerick on the route, are being diverted at Cappamore.
Motorists have been advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
The route is expected to remain closed until midday today.
