The northside of Cork city was in mourning today after the tragic death of a young Mayfield woman in the Canaries writes Audrey Ellard Walsh.
Named locally as Ramona Fagan, the 22-year-old woman from Ballinderry Park had travelled to the holiday island of Tenerife with a friend earlier this week.
It is believed that she had been planning to stay for about a month and a half, but the trip was cut tragically short by her untimely death following a fall from a balcony on Wednesday.
A talented makeup artist, Ms Fagan graduated from Mayfield Community School in 2013 and was currently working for business process management service Abtran.
Taking to social media in an outpouring of grief, her many friends remembered her as a happy, kind and ambitious young woman, with one person calling her “a sweet, beautiful and genuine girl” and another remembering her as “an absolute gem”.
Fr Michael Keohane, parish priest at Our Lady Crowned Parish, said: “This is clearly a tragedy for the family. There is widespread shock in the community but there will be a huge outpouring of support for the family.”
