A 52-year-old man has appeared before the Special Criminal Court – charged with possession of explosives in suspicious circumstances.

It is after a suspect package was found outside Store Street garda station in Dublin yesterday.

The army bomb disposal team was called to Store Street Garda station yesterday morning, when a suspect package was discovered.

Neighbouring premises were evacuated – and the device, which contained viable components was removed.

This afternoon, Patrick Brennan, with an address at Lindisfarne Avenue in Clondalkin, appeared before the three judge Special Criminal Court – charged under section 4 of the Explosive Substances Act.

The 52-year-old, dressed in a blue t-shirt and jeans, did not stand or reply when the charge was read to him.

He’s charged with having in his possession 4 400g blocks of TNT and three detonators.

Mr. Brennan’s been remanded in custody to appear in court again next Friday, when counsel for the DPP has indicated they’ll oppose bail.
