Enda Kenny has said he wants to give emigrants the right to vote for President.
The Taoiseach has said it should now be possible to make sure Irish passport holders abroad get a vote.
He was speaking to an audience of Irish emigrants in Manchester.
He said votes for emigrants is an issue he has asked the Minister for the Diaspora, Joe McHugh, to arrange: “This is an issue that has been around for a very long time.
“There have been quite sophisticated advances made, in terms of voting from abroad.
“And we need to set out a terms of reference, as to the conditions that would apply in terms of who should be eligible to vote and how that should apply and that will be a priority for the Minister for the Diaspora.”
