A video of Republic of Ireland fans singing to police officers in France, and their good-humoured response, has gone viral.

The night before Ireland’s game against Belgium yesterday, the boys and girls in green were frequenting the Connemara pub in Bordeaux.

However, when the pub closed its doors for the night the Ireland supporters were still in the mood to keep the party going, so French police persuaded them to move to a tunnel nearby.

But rather than deter them from continuing the party, the tunnel’s acoustics enhanced the supporters’ singing and they serenaded the police with their version of “Stand up for the French police.”

While the poor policemen waited for them to get tired, almost three minutes into the clip one officer grabs the microphone to show off his singing prowess with “Go home for the French police”.
