A woman has died and a man is in a serious condition in hospital following a two-car crash in Meath.

The 25-year-old woman was a passenger in one of the cars involved in the collision at Blackwater Bridge in Enfield at about 9.15pm last night.

A man in his 20’s – the driver of the car – is receiving treatment at Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown for serious injuries.

The driver of the second car, a woman in her 30s, was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar for non-life threatening injuries.

The road remains closed this morning to allow for a forensic examination of the scene.

GardaĆ­ are asking drivers to avoid the old N4.
