Irish fans travelling around France in a campervan for Euro 2016 have had the time of their lives – but “too much craic” has taken its toll.

The party has been going for almost two weeks, and the late nights and banter have begun to catch up with the lads from County Wexford, who joked that they are now on their “last legs”.

After picking up the campervan in Amsterdam, the fans followed the boys in green from Paris to Bordeaux and on to Lille.

Sitting in the passenger seat of the vehicle in a hotel car park near Lille’s Stade Pierre Mauroy, Gary Murphy, 29, from Oulart, said: “We’re dead to the world. We mightn’t make it home.

“The driving, the beer and getting lost.

“The craic was unreal. My voice is gone.”

His friend Stephen Watchorn, 22, from Kiltealy, said: “We just can’t wait to go home. We want to go home. It’s been great craic though.

“Beer. Too much beer. Too much shouting and singing. Too much craic.

“But if we got the chance we’d do it all again.

“It’s been the best two weeks of my life. I’d love to do it all again. It’s been the best six months wages ever spent.”

Stephen’s 38-year-old brother Ally joked that it was his first and last time to travel around in a campervan, adding: “No more Irish pubs.”

Across the hotel car park, Paddy Robbins, 33, from Stradbally in County Laois, was chilling out with his pals.

“Jimmy was minding me there for the last two weeks. I’d love an old home cooked meal alright.

“A lot of travelling. Done I think 2,700km already. We only bought this campervan three days before we came.

“Worth every penny. No hassle,” he said.
