Console CEO Paul Kelly has resigned after concerns were raised about governance and financial management at the charity.

Mr Kelly stepped down following a report by the RTÉ Investigations Unit on Prime Time.

It revealed concerns about the charity, which provides counselling for people bereaved by suicide.

The programme alleges the charity omitted directors pay from applications for state grants and tax exemptions and claimed people as board members who did not actually hold those positions.

One of these was former Senator, Jillian Van Turnhout who says she was stunned that her name was used.

“I was stunned to see it. I believe it was a report submitted to the HSE in 2009.

“I’ve had no contact or ever been involved with Console, the nearest I ever got was Tweeting their helpline number so I was stunned when my name appeared.”
