It is understood that a ‘fan zone’ for Ireland’s next match on Sunday will be established in Smithfield Square in Dublin city centre.

There have been calls for big screens to be established in a family-friendly environment to allow people enjoy the game against France.

Labour Dublin City Councillor, Rebecca Moynihan, said: “Final details have yet to be confirmed but a fan zone will be set up this Sunday.”

This afternoon, Dublin City Council said it was “considering the installation of a large screen and fan zone at Smithfield”.

However, they did say that before establishing it, they would have to examine “issues around cost, security, event management plan”.

Earlier, Tánaiste Frances Fitzgerald says the housing and planning minister Simon Coveney is working to see this happen.

Ms Fitzgerald said: “Well I’ve already had a discussion with Minister Coveney who is going to discuss it with Dublin City Council to see if it’s feasible at the time.

“He is very enthusiastic about doing that, so we’ll see what happens.”
