Two men are due in court in connection with a robbery in Dublin yesterday during which an off-duty garda was injured.

At just after 4pm yesterday afternoon, two men entered a service station on the Naas Road in Rathcoole with their faces covered and wielding knives.

They threatened staff and escaped with cash and the till drawer.

As they made off to a waiting car driven by a third man, they were confronted by off-duty gardaí, who were threatened with knives.

One fled the scene but the second was tackled by the off-duty gardaí – one of whom received cuts to his arm.

Two men, aged 26 and 36 were arrested after the gardaí prevented the car from fleeing.

The men are due before Blanchardstown District Court.

The garda was not badly hurt and did not require hospitalisation.
