A young man has died in a crash between a car and truck in Co Wexford.

The collision happened at about 5.25am today on the Ballycanew to Wexford road (coast road R741) one mile outside Ballycanew.

The 21-year-old driver of the car was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene.

His remains have been removed to the mortuary at Wexford General Hospital.

The driver of the truck, who is 29 years old, was uninjured in the collision. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

Gardaí in Gorey, Co Wexford are investigating.

The road is closed for a forensic collision examination and local diversions in place.
