Pablo Cuevas’ grass-court epiphany continued with victory over Gilles Muller to reach the Aegon Open final in Nottingham.

Prior to arriving at the tournament, clay lover Cuevas had won only two matches on grass in his career.

But a 3-6 7-6 (7/3) 6-4 victory against Luxembourg’s Muller made it four wins in a row for the second seed.

He said on atpworldtour.com: “Yesterday and today, I beat some really good players on this surface. Gilles’ game is perfect for this surface.

“I’m so happy to win and it fills me with confidence. I’ve done a lot of work on grass. Now I move better and feel much more comfortable.

“Coming in, I thought getting one match was already good. But I had no idea I could play for a final. It’s perfect.”

In the final on Saturday, Cuevas will play American Steve Johnson, who won two matches in a day.

First, he finished off a quarter-final upset against top seed Kevin Anderson and then defeated Andreas Seppi 6-4 6-4.
