Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following an alleged assault in Central Dublin last night.

They were alerted to the discovery of an unconscious man by a member of the public on Dame Lane at about 11.30pm.

The man, in his late 30s was found with serious head injuries, close to the entrance to a pub.

The man was rushed to St James’ Hospital and has since been transferred to Beaumont where he remains in a serious condition.
