Legislation has been published which would give extra powers to the inquiry into IBRC and the sale of SiteServ.
The Cregan Commission has faced a series of problems since it started, particularly in relation to legal privilege over crucial documents.
The inquiry-specific legislation aims to overcome the difficulty in relation to confidentiality, and allow IBRC liquidators to provide information to Judge Cregan.
Social Democrats TD Catherine Murphy, said that she hopes the legislation is robust enough to allow the inquiry to finish its work.
“The legislation also allows the judge to refer matters to the High Court for determination, so it just gives it the backing of the courts, if you like, and that’s one of the other aspects that’s included in the legislation,
“I’m presuming that will proof it against other issues that might arise that haven’t been thought about.”
