Fionnuala McCormack has narrowly missed-out on a medal after a fourth-place finish in the Women’s 10,000 metres final at the European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam.
The Wicklow runner produced one of the best performances of her career over the distance, but trailed-in well behind the winner, Yasmine Can of Turkey.

Thomas Barr has won his heat in the men’s 400m hurdles in a time of 50.17 seconds to progress to the next round but there was disappointment for Paul Byrne, who missed-out after he finished in fourth place in his heat.
Tomas Cotter had to settle for 12th place in his heat in the 3,000m steeplechase.
Earlier, Sinead Denny has reached the semi finals of the 400 metres after finishing third in her heat, but Claire Mooney missed-out after finishing in seventh.
In the men’s 400 metres, Brian Gregan got through as a fastest loser but David Gillick and Craig Lynch both failed to advance.
