Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a driver left the scene of a crash involving an ambulance in Drogheda.

A car and the emergency vehicle were in collision at the junction of the Bridge of Peace and the Rathmullen road at about 3.20pm this afternoon.

Two paramedics and one patient were on board at the time.

All three have been taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in the town with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver left the scene on foot and a search is now underway.

An examination of the scene has been carried out while both vehicles will undergo forensic testing.
