Loughnane originally won the silver medal at the 20km race walk, behind Russian Olga Kaniskina.
But, having been banned for doping last year, Kaniskina was stripped of her title.
Despite the injustice Olive, who is now retired from race walking, is looking forward to receiving the medal.
She will receive the award in a ceremony during the ongoing European Championships in Amsterdam this evening.
“I’m making the most of it, I’m lapping it up!” she joked today. “It’s a formal presentation.”
“I’ll be on my own on the podium, there will only be one step. But there will be a national anthem, there will be flags and there will lots of Irish people here so it’ll be great.”
She also welcomed efforts to clean up the sport.
“I suppose athletics has been through a bit of a bad time, but they’re trying to make things right now.”
