Colm Cooper is a doubt for Kerry’s All-Ireland quarter-final, scheduled for the August Bank Holiday weekend.
Kerry GAA has released an update on his condition, saying: “An MRI Scan has confirmed that Colm Cooper damaged shoulder ligaments during the Munster Football Final on Sunday last.
“His rehab work has started and he will resume playing in due course.”
The news will come as a blow to manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice. The Gooch sustained the injury in the Munster football final against Tipperary on Sunday and at the time Fitzmaurice was hopeful that it wasn’t serious.
Kerry will face a Round 4A qualifier winner in the quarter-final at the start of August.
