The Egyptian Ambassador to Ireland is being urged to meet with Irish politicians over the treatment of Ibrahim Halawa.

It follows a Dáil debate on the Dubliner’s detention after his trial was delayed again this week.

The Taoiseach spoke to President al-Sisi on Monday evening to raise personal concerns at the 20-year-old’s treatment.

Fianna Fáil Dublin TD John Lahart has said we must do all we can to secure Ibrahim Halawa’s release.

“What I’m calling for now is this momentum has to be kept going, I intend also to write to the Egyptian Ambassador in Dublin seeking a meeting with the ambassador to discuss the issue,” said Lahart.

“It is all part of keeping the case in the public eye, highlighting it and keeping it to the for in people’s consciousness.”
