Galway 0-13 Roscommon 1-10
A Donie Smith free two minutes into second-half stoppages ensured both Galway and Roscommon will have to meet again to decide the destination of the JJ Nestor Cup writes Eoghan Cormican, Irish Examiner GAA Reporter.
The home side looked poised for victory when leading by the minimum entering second-half injury time and having outscored Roscommon by 0-7 to 0-3 since the change of ends.
Smith won the free, however, and held his nerve to force a replay.
Roscommon, having played with the wind in the first-half, were 1-6 to 0-6 in front at half-time, Enda Smith’s 15th minute goal the difference.
The Roscommon full-forward benefited from a stroke of good fortune when the ball landed at his feet after John McManus was dispossessed in front of goal.
The goal put the visitors 1-2 to 0-2 ahead and when Niall Daly kicked over from distance in the subsequent action, there was four between the teams.
Gary Sice (free) and Danny Cummins steadied the ship for Galway and it was tit-for-tat from there to the break with Roscommon answering each Galway score in confident fashion.
Kevin Walsh’s side started the second-half smartly, shooting five of the first six scores.
The killer blow, though, they failed to land.
