Tension is said to be mounting in Fine Gael over plans to appoint a new leader.
Enda Kenny is under increasing pressure to announce when he intends to resign as head of the party.
It is understood his appointment of James Reilly as deputy leader last week has led some members of the parliamentary party to call for a motion of no confidence in his leadership.
Yesterday, Leo Varadkar reiterated that there is no vacancy for a new leader.
However, on Friday Government Chief Whip Regina Doherty said members of Fine Gael and the Government would be better able to get on with their jobs if a timeline for Enda Kenny’s resignation was set out.
