A post mortem will be carried out later today on the body of a woman who drowned in County Clare yesterday.

The 53-year-old woman is understood to have been fishing in Fanore at Ballyreen when she got into difficulty shortly before 9am.

Doolin Coastguard rescued the woman from the water and she was rushed to University Hospital Galway where she later died.

It is understood the woman was originally from Eastern Europe but living in County Tipperary.
