Alex Ferguson was like a proud dad at sports day in Paris last night, as he watched his former protégé Cristiano Ronaldo lift the European Championship trophy.

The Portugal and Real Madrid star spent six seasons playing under Ferguson at Manchester United, and has previously given the Scot a lot of credit for his development as a footballer.
The affection between the pair was evident as Fergie waited for Portugal’s captain to descend the steps after lifting the trophy.

The retired manager also had a hug another former player, Nani, and congratulated several others, but it was Ronaldo he really wanted to meet.
When the player finally made his way down he greeted his former boss with delight and the pair exchanged a hug and a chat.
And judging by Ronaldo’s actions on the sideline during the match – he learned more than football during his time at United.
