Shane Ward has stepped down as manager of the Leitrim footballers.

Following their Connacht championship exit to Roscommon, Leitrim registered a first round qualifier win over Waterford.

However their championship campaign was brought to a halt with an 11-point defeat to Sligo earlier this month.

That brought an end to Ward’s second year in charge.

Despite calls from team captain Gary Reynolds for the management team to remain in place, Ward has now decided to announce his resignation.
