A bridal store owner has been sent forward for trial on charges of stealing monies from a number of brides-to-be for the sale of wedding dresses, writes David Raleigh.

Shirley Flanagan (aged 35) of Rathurd, Donoghmore, Co Limerick, who operated Robelle Bridal, Annacotty, Co Limerick, is charged with four counts of theft from four clients.

The offences are alleged to have taken place at Ms Flanagan’s bridal shop on separate dates between January 4 and May 13, 2015.

Ms Flanagan is accused of four separate counts of stealing monies worth, €1,800; €1,050; €400; and €400.

Sergeant John Moloney, prosecuting, told the court, “the Director of Public Prosecutions has consented the accused be sent forward for trial to the next sittings of Limerick Circuit Court”.

At an earlier date it was heard that the DPP had consented for the matter to be heard before the District Court if the accused pleaded guilty to the charges outlined.

However when her case was called at the time, her solicitor Darach McCarthy said there was no plea being entered.

It will be alleged by the State that Ms Flanagan received approximately €3,100 from a number of clients for wedding dresses but that they did not receive the dresses.

Today, Garda Shane Hayes, Henry Street Garda station, served the Book of Evidence on Ms Flanagan.

A copy of the book was handed to Ms Flanagan.

Judge Marian O’Leary gave Ms Flanagan the “alibi warning”.

She informed Ms Flanagan she had 14 days in which to furnish the prosecution with the contact details of any witnesses she may rely on at her trial.

Ms Flanagan was remanded on continuing bail, on a number of conditions, including she sign on twice weekly at Roxboro Road Garda Station; reside at her home address in Rathurd, Donoghmore, Co Limerick; and, that she have no contact, directly or indirectly, with any witnesses in the case.

Judge O’Leary granted legal aid and one senior defence counsel for Ms Flanagan’s trial.
