Injuries are common on the rugby field and, judging by these clips, the celebrations can be just as dangerous as the tackles.

When rugby league side the New South Wales Blues scored a last-second try to win a State of Origin match in Sydney last night, player Aaron Woods was keen to join the celebratory group hug.

Unfortunately for Woods, he got his timing spectacularly wrong and his leap ended in a heap on the pitch.

Here it is from another angle.

Luckily, he saw the funny side.

Oh mate, I’ve never jumped that high in my life,” he told Fox Sports. “The amount of airtime I got, it gave the boys enough time to get out of the way,”

“I tried to just lay on the ground and put my arms up as if no one had seen me, but there was about 65,000 who did. I just missed and I’m going to cop it for a long time now.”

And that is why the GAA lads stick to a vigorous fist pump.
