Gerry Adams has said his position as leader of Sinn Féin is always up for debate, but he will not be stepping aside any time soon.

The party is holding an event in Dublin this afternoon – to discuss its future.

The meeting in Ballyfermot – which is the first of 46 to be held around the country – is being attended by representatives from the 32 counties.

February’s General Election campaign saw many calls for Gerry Adams to step down as leader.

But Mr. Adams has said despite changes within the organisation, he is staying put for now: “We are a party in transition, we are also a leadership in transition.

“We are very democratic and our membership elects our leadership every single year.

“But all of those issues are up for debate of course.”
