A teenager has died in a road crash in Co Longford last night.

The 18-year-old man died when the car he was travelling in, as a front seat passenger, and a tractor were in collision on the N4 in Cloonart, Bornacoola, Co Longford, at around 11.50pm last night.

He was brought to Mullingar Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver and other two occupants of the car were also brought to Mullingar Hospital, and one of the passengers is in a serious condition while driver and the other passenger are said to have minor injuries.

The driver of the tractor was uninjured.

Gardaí in Longford are carrying out a forensic examination of the crash scene and diversions are in place via Roosky for traffic coming from Sligo, and Newtownforbes for traffic travelling from Dublin.
