The World Anti-Doping Agency has reinstated the laboratory which will carry out drug testing at the Rio Olympics.

The Brazilian Doping Control Laboratory was suspended last month for what WADA called a “nonconformity” with the International Standard for Laboratories.

“WADA is very pleased to announce that the Rio Laboratory’s accreditation has been reinstated,” said WADA director general Olivier Niggli.

“Athletes can be confident that anti-doping sample analysis has been robust throughout the Laboratory’s suspension and that it will also be during the Games.”

Had the laboratory not been reinstated, the International Olympic Committee would have had to send samples abroad for testing.

The Olympics begin on August 5 with doubts surrounding Russian involvement following doping revelations in the McLaren report which stated urine samples of Russian competitors were manipulated in summer and winter Olympic sports between 2011 and 2015.
