Doctors are warning that after years of cutbacks our health system is under serious pressure.
The Irish Hospital Consultants Association will unveil their pre-Budget submission to Government today.
Their president claims there is an urgent need for more beds, equipment and operating theatres.
Dr Tom Ryan said that with more people presenting at Irish hospitals, the system also now needs more doctors.
“After years of cutbacks, out acute hospitals and mental health services are crumbling,” he said.
“there are not enough hospital beds, there are not enough operating theatres, and there are not enough intensive care beds.
“Hospital equipment is becoming increasingly obsolete, and urgently needs replacement.”
