Ryanair has cut the cost of reserved seating for passengers travelling with children under 12.

All customers travelling with children under 12 will benefit from lower reserved seat fees which will be cut from €4 to free for children under 12.

Under this new policy one adult in every booking with children under 12 must purchase a reserved seat at the time of booking –which will cost €4.

The initiative has been introduced after Ryanair announced it will be mandatory for any customer travelling with children under 12 to buy reserved seats in order to ensure customers are always seated together.

This new rule will come into effect from September 1.

The new rule was brought in as many adults travelling with young children did not select reserved seats and this caused boarding issues when crews tried to reseat passengers.

Ryanair’s Kenny Jacobs said: “We are reducing the cost of a child’s reserved seat to €0, and making it mandatory for one adult in each family booking to buy a reserved seat at the time of booking, which will cost just €4.

“This will make flying with Ryanair even cheaper and more simple for all customers with young children, and guarantee that they will always be seated together.”
