The Government is planning to introduce new international security measures to prevent future terror attacks.

According to the Sunday Independent, a new state agency will be established to identify potential suspects flying in and out of Ireland.

This new agency will be able to screen passenger records for the first time ever, and will also have access to the US government’s terror watch list.

The organisation is expected to be comprised of the Gardaí, custom officials and the Revenue Commissioners office.

The new body will be organised on similar lines to the Criminal Assets Bureau.

A new poll found that Irish people were more concerned about terrorism than our European counterparts.

The Euro-Barometer poll found that Immigration was the biggest issue overall, with 48% of Europeans expressing concern.

39% said terrorism was their biggest worry, up 14% since the last survey.

But, in Ireland, 50% said terrorism was the biggest issue – the highest level in Europe, along with Cyprus.
