Gardai have arrested a third man in connection with a serious assault in Carrick on Shannon last month.
The man in his 20s was arrested this afternoon in Co Roscommon and is currently being detained at Carrick on Shannon Garda Station, under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
The 40-year-old victim was assaulted on the 17th of July.
He has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
Another man and a woman were arrested on the 29th of July.
They are currently before the courts charged in connection with the incident and investigations are ongoing.
The incident happened before 4am on Sunday the 17th July 2016.
Gardaí in Carrick on Shannon received a report that a male had been assaulted and was lying on the Main St. in Carrick on Shannon.
When Gardaí arrived at the scene they found an unresponsive male lying on the road, and ambulance attended the scene and the injured male was conveyed to Sligo University Hospital.
The incident occurred when the injured party was in an altercation with a group of people (both male and female) on the footpath on the Main St, (near the junction of Bridge St) it then continued onto the road.
Gardaí have interviewed a number of witnesses and viewed CCTV covering the area.
